Samyang Releasing XP 50mm F1.2 EF Mount
Samyang’s new XP Lens line is really heating up. This is their third lens they’ve added to this lineup after the Samyang XP 14mm F2.4 and XP 85mm F1.2. With what their touting for resolution and coverage I’m going to have to see for myself how well these hold up on the new RED MONSTRO 8K Vista Vision sensor.
Samyang’s new 50mm F1.2 lens touts 8k for video and more than 50 megapixels for photography. It’s got 11 lenses in 8 groups to help minimize distortion and with a 9 blade aperture, chances are this lens will deliver beautiful bokeh and sharp images even low light. I can’t wait to try it out myself.
The options for 8K and large format motion picture filmmaking are expanding so fast it’s hard to keep up, I love all these new tools we have as filmmakers, but remember, despite specs – it’s all about what serves the story. That may be a super fast, super sharp 8k lens from Samyang, or a 50 year old Russian lens – it’s up to you to decide what’s right for your story. I’m just reminding you of all the options, so get out there and shoot!
