Writing “The Ticket”

Po Chan directing The Ticket

The Ticket - A love story between art and science

By Po Chan.

Looking back on the year 2012, I believe that one of my greatest pleasures was making The Ticket. Before I conceived the story for The Ticket, I was certain that my main goal was to showcase the power of the Canon 1DC 4K sensor. Then my intuition told me (which I always trust and listen) a profound emotional love story with high optical structure would be the right path to take, to create a deep connection with the audience and generate a bigger impact for the 4K image. That is how The Ticket was born.

The Ticket is about two words, “WHAT IF.” Some actual events in my own life inspired me to ask myself “WHAT IF.” Then I started to distance myself from those events and created this film as a way to resolve this question out loud.

For this film, I constructed a rich visual landscape to showcase how powerful the Canon sensor can be. This visual landscape also helped me to form this symbolism enriched film.

Shane and I have always said that The Ticket is a love story between art and science. I think the true beauty of art, as well as the art of cinema, is the power to communicate with people on a subconscious emotional level. And the strength of photography and cinematography is the ability to evoke a sense of humanity.

Today, I would like to share the script of The Ticket with you, which was a great joy writing.

I hope it will bring the same joy to you.
Much love. Po Chan

Dear Daniel, I am glad that you enjoyed the script. It is my great pleasure to shared it with you. I think a screenplay is the most pure representation of what was inside the creator’s mind. And I’m delighted to be able to connect with you on such purity. Best. Po Chan
