How To Light a Car: Green & Blue Screen takes you through the Poor Man’s Process utilizing scenes from the films Deadfall and Need For Speed as case studies. Poor Man’s Process is a filmmaking technique that gives the impression of motion in driving scenes—and it’s completely doable on a modest budget.
Shane Hurlbut, ASC details how he approached the snowstorm scene in Deadfall with blue screen and shows the best way to light a car interior for VFX plates. He discusses how to convey the scene and its emotion with your lens, depth of field, and cinematic framing. The course even gets as granular as providing top tips for enhancing a closeup!
Shane then switches gears and presents his lighting setups utilized in Deadfall and Need For Speed to guide you through techniques like green screen lighting for the front windshield, lighting for dawn, ISO adjustment, utilizing a color meter for the best color tones, and revealing how to manipulate colors for the dawn to twilight shift.
