Lighting Techniques – When To Use a Fill Light

Matthew McConaughey cry-laughing

The third point of a classic three point lighting set up is a fill light. This is that light that adjusts your contrast ratio. Depending on the mood of your story and or scene, you can choose to use a little or a lot of this light. I use The Greatest Game Ever Played as a reference for the use of all styles of where and when to use fill lighting.
