Last year, we made a series of six educational videos with B&H to cover everything from the settings we use on the Canon 5D Mark II to the kind of lenses and equipment I recommend.

The running scene in "The Ticket" that uses my song "Those Kisses" reminds me why I got into the business of making music for films.

When it comes to using a new camera like the Canon C300, I don’t do camera tests to see how it performs. I battle test it on location. When HBO came to me to shoot another promo for their TV series Game of Thrones, I used this as a chance to see if the C300 could hold its own in an interview setting alongside the benchmark for digital cinema capture: the Arri Alexa.

When director Scott Waugh called me to shoot the video for the “Act Of Valor” credit crawl song “For You” by Keith Urban, I was excited to have the opportunity to get the whole Elite Team back together. It was equally exciting to hear Keith’s amazing song, which supported the story perfectly.

Since the invention of the Canon 5D, it has taken scouting to a whole new level and preparing that package that allows you can take advantage of serendipitous moments, lightning in a bottle so to speak, is essential.

Part of being a cinematography intern is not only knowing all the gear, but how it can be used to enhance your visual story telling.
